Lodge Operation
The lodge opens for the winter when the Whakapapa ski field opens for skiing, and remains open until the ski lifts close for the summer, subject to snow conditions and bookings. It is open for mid-week use under the control of a custodian, and on weekends a lodge leader is appointed by the booking officer. Everyone staying at the lodge is expected to do a duty each day, either helping with meal preparation or cleaning. Cooking is the responsibility of the Custodian, but you may be rostered to help if the Lodge is full. Duties are rostered by the custodian or lodge leader. The lodge operates on a fully catered basis except for lunches. A weekend booking includes breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday night. A weekend booking does not include a meal on Friday or Sunday nights.
There are a limited number of lockers available in the lodge where members can leave items such as bedding, and lockable ski and snowboard racks are available for use during the season.
Chalet Operation
During the ski season, the chalets are only available to ski members. A list of what is and is not supplied in the chalets can be found on our website. During the ski season, people staying in the chalets may elect to have breakfast or dinner at the lodge for a small fee, but this MUST be booked in advance with the Custodian.Cook. The chalets must be left clean and tidy when you depart.
Club Ski Events
The club is involved in interclub ski racing competitions such as the Christiania Derby, Ridge Race and the Te Heu Heu Trophy. During the season, the club holds its own ski/snowboard races for all age groups. The course is set so that all skiers are able to finish, and a prize giving dinner is held at the lodge in the evening — a popular weekend for members.
Work Parties
Work party weekends take place prior to the start of the ski season, and all senior and tertiary skiers are expected to attend one each year. If you take part in any organised work party, your work party levy is refunded to your accommodation account. Work parties not only ensure that our assets stay in good condition, they are lots of fun, and are a great way to meet other club members and to find out how the lodge system works.
To apply to join the club, please download the membership application form and send your details to PO Box 337, Rotorua
